All of our PTA Events are run by parents volunteers, so please feel free to jump in and help out! Check out the Monday Morning Reminder emails for current volunteer opportunities and contacts.
Board Meetings: This is a monthly meeting of the PTA's Board of Directors. We discuss the future goals of the PTA and details of upcoming PTA events, including general membership meetings. Currently, Board meetings meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 6-7pm, immediately preceeding the General Membership Mtg, from 7-8pm.
Boosterthon Fun Run - this is a two week fundraising experience that teaches our students the value of fitness, leadership and character. Students request pledges from family and friends prior to the event day and have opportunities to win prizes a few weeks leading up to the big day. On the day of the Fun Run, all students receive a Boosterthon t-shirt to wear, and participate as a class either walking, jogging or running as many laps as they can around a short course prepared by the Boosterthon staff. This is a fun event loved by students, teachers and parents and all are welcome to come cheer on the teams!
Bookfair Fundraiser: Our bookfair is sponsored by Scholastic books. They bring displays of their books to be set up in our media center. Students visit the display with their class and create a written wishlist. They then return on their buying day with money to purchase their book(s) or parents can purchase books at family night.
Bookfair Family night: Parents are invited to visit the Scholastic display with their child(ren). Books from teacher and student wishlists may be purchased immediately. Browsing the displays allows parents to see the actual books on student and teach wishlists. Entertainment is also provided in the gym.
Go, Play, Save Coupon Book Sales: This fundraiser sells coupon books filled with discounts to local businesses. There are prize incentives for the students for returning the unsold book. Orders will be filled immediately by PTA volunteers in the main hallway in the mornings.
Cultural Arts Program: These events are co-sponsored by the PTA and the United Arts Council grant. The performances and presenters occur during the school day. There is a four year schedule to make sure that one track does not miss the same performance style.
Parent Education Nights: These nights are designed to educate parents with information to make informed decisions or discussions with and for their children.
Father-Daughter Dance: This is a free event for Fathers and Daughters to have a "date night." The theme of this year's dance is Harvest Moon.
Field Day: There are two field days in the late spring. Two tracks will participate in each of them. Parents are encouraged to participate by volunteering to oversee a station. Part of the day takes place in the front field.
Food Drive: The food drive occurs in November. It occurs over a two-week period so that all our tracks can participate. Each day, a different type of food or personal hygiene item is collected and stored in our principal's office! We try to fill up the office with donations! All items are donated, on behalf of our school, to the Eastern and Central North Carolina Food Bank.
Grade Night Out: These six nights occur at local restaurants. A certain percentage of the income for the restaurant is returned to the PTA. Each grade "hosts" an evening, however, everyone is encouraged to attend.
Grounds Day: There are two scheduled grounds days during the year. During these two days we weed the beds, plant new plants, mulch the beds, and do extra work on the playgrounds (ie sand, murals, cleaning)
Hospitality teacher appreciation luncheons: These 8 luncheons occur on early release days from 11:45am-1:00pm. Each luncheon has a different theme and we use a Sign Up Genius website to assign different luncheon items - from paper goods to drinks, or casseroles to delicious desserts. Store bought items or home made items are accepted. It is a great way to show our teachers how much we appreciate their hard work with our kids!
Mother-Son Event: This FREE evening gives moms and their sons a chance to hang out together.
PTA General Membership Meetings: These 7 meetings occur at night throughout the year. These meetings will bring the general membership up to speed on PTA events. During the spring meetings we will be looking for volunteers to fill committee chairperson roles for the following year. Any vote that requires a quorum of the membership will occur during these meetings.
Wake County Reflections Art Contest & School Art Show: The PTA Reflections Program is a national arts education program that takes place in the Fall of each year with a designated theme. It is designed for students preschool - grade 12, encouraging them to create original works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and the visual arts. The Reflections program helps parents to encourage the creativity and lifelong learning of their children in the arts, and the program offers children special recognition for their artistic endeavors and effort. Students who participate from Middle Creek Elementary are given awards and special recognition throughout the school year.
Science Olympiad Tournament: Middle Creek Elementary will be entering 4 teams (15 kids per team) into the NC Science Olympiad this year! We will need all parents who have a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) or just love science to help out as a coach! A coaching seminar is offered in late October for parents who are interested in coaching a team. Then the team will meet (usually Saturday or Sunday afternoons : coach's convenience!) to prepare for the competition. We will also have a few practices when all the teams meet together and we work on our speed (the competition is timed). The final competition is at the end of March at MIDDLE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! Yes - MCE will be the host school for the NC Science Olympiad and will welcome 20 different Wake County schools to our campus to compete. Please join us for this prestigious and exciting competition!
School Spelling Bee: Each class will be having their own spelling bee before the Thanksgiving holiday in November. Room parents will need to be ready to assist for this event! Each class winner will advance to the Middle Creek Elementary Spelling Bee held on December 7. The winner of the Middle Creek Spelling Bee will advance to the county bee!
Teacher Appreciation Weeks: These weeks occur in May to coincide with National Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day has a theme assigned to it. The students are encouraged to bring in an item for their teachers every day of the week. During this week, the teachers are treated to a catered lunch by the PTA.
