Attention, all Middle Creek Families……… we need your new and gently used children’s books!
During the month of February, WAKE up and Read will collect new and gently-used books for children ages birth-12. The goal is to collect 110,000 books in one month – enough to share at ten schools, as well as community centers and child care facilities across Wake County. The WAKE Up and Read campaign was launched in 2012 to address one of the most critical junctures to lifelong success, reading on grade-level by 3rd grade. This unique community collaboration includes education, civic, philanthropic, and business leaders from across Wake County, all working together to help every child develop the necessary skills for success in school and beyond. Sadly, many Wake County children have no books in their home and arrive for kindergarten without the knowledge and experiences they need to excel. Our shared goal is to ensure that more children from low-income families have the tools and resources they need to become lifelong readers and learners. Working together, we can build stronger students and a stronger community. Middle Creek Families can make a difference in our community just by donating books! Please clear your cluttered shelves of books your kids have outgrown, or bring in favorites of your own, so that we can help Wake county children grow up loving books. Look for the book collection bins in the front office and please help us fill them! Even if you don’t have any children’s books to bring in, you can purchase books to support the drive at local retailers, or through the WAKE Up and Read Amazon Wish List (amzn.com/w/1CKI25DIX2JBX). Donations are also welcome and made be made online at www.wakeed.org/invest/invest-now-2/; just enter your information in the form, and select that you’d like to apply your gift to WAKE Up and Read at the bottom.
